Well, 2011 was a great year for Malayalam cinema, a year that proved that you don't need big names like Mohanlal and Mammootty to make a superhit cinema.From the year's first release 'Traffic' to 'Vellaripravinte Changathi' saw some pathbreaking films.We at Pics-4-u pick five best malayalam films of 2011.
2. Traffic
2011 started off on a high with Rajesh Pillai's 'Traffic' based partly on a true story.The film had a strong script along with powerful performances from the cast which included Sreenivasan, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Rahman, Kunchakko Boban and a few others.The way in which story of different people unite shows the brilliance of the film.
3. Salt N Pepper
Salt N Pepper directed by Aashiq Abu was perhaps the most watched and entertaining film of 2011.When you walk into a cinema hall, you expect to be entertained and that is exactly what Salt N Pepper does, Entertain You !.Situtation comedies and one liners were the soul of the film.One has to give credit to the director and script writer for making such an entertainer out of this very thin story line.
4. Urumi
Urumi opened to a lot of hype upon release and to an extent lived up to it.The film directed by Santosh Sivan had Prithviraj playing the lead role and Genelia D'souza.The film shows the real colors of Vasco De Gama who first landed on Indian soil.The effort made into making such a period film has to be applauded.Well done !
5. Beautiful
Beautiful arrived late but did attract crowds with it's beauty.The film directed by VK Prakash was a surprise winner.The film had script by actor Anoop Menon.A brilliant performance by Jayasurya and Anoop Menon made the film stay at Cinemas.
